Rehabilitation with Hydrotherapy

Our expert team offers pet hydrotherapy to aid recovery, improve mobility & enhance quality of life.

At LAHP, we’re proud to offer veterinary rehabilitation with hydrotherapy, designed to support pets recovering from injury, surgery, or chronic conditions. Our goal is to help your pet move more comfortably, regain strength, and enjoy an improved quality of life.

Your pet will be cared for by a rehabilitation veterinarian and two rehab-certified technicians who are passionate about helping animals heal and thrive. Every plan is tailored to your pet’s unique needs and goals.

What is Hydrotherapy?

Hydrotherapy for pets is a form of therapy that uses water (e.g., in an underwater treadmill) to support and improve movement, while promoting strength and healing. The buoyancy of water reduces stress on weight-bearing joints while providing resistance for muscle strengthening and overall stamina.

It’s commonly used as a form of therapy for both dogs and cats after an acute injury or post-operatively as well as for senior pets diagnosed with chronic medical conditions and overweight pets requiring conditioning.

Hydrotherapy can also be used as a diagnostic tool for our rehabilitation team as it slows down a patient’s gait and allows them to look for subtle abnormalities in their mobility that can often be missed while walking on land.

At Lakeshore Animal Health Partners, hydrotherapy plans and sessions are conducted by highly trained veterinarians and registered veterinary technicians in specialized facilities designed for animal rehabilitation.

Whether on an underwater treadmill or through guided water exercises, hydrotherapy:

  • Reduces stress on joints and muscles
  • Helps rebuild strength and mobility
  • Supports weight management and conditioning
  • Promotes faster recovery after surgery or injury

When is Rehabilitation Recommended?

Rehab and hydrotherapy can be beneficial for pets with:

  • Orthopedic injuries or post-surgical recovery (e.g., cruciate ligament repair, fractures)
  • Neurological conditions affecting mobility
  • Arthritis or degenerative joint disease
  • Obesity and conditioning needs
  • Age-related stiffness and weakness
